TMJ PAIN, TMJ CLICKING AND LOCKING, GENTLE SPECIALIZED CRANIAL TECHNIQUES FOR TMJ AND JAW PAIN: TREATING THE ROOT CAUSES OF TMJ DISORDERS.

DR. STRASSER TREATS TMJ (TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT SYNDROME) WITH GENTLE CRANIAL THERAPY,and CHIROPRACTIC AND MANUAL THERAPIES TO ADDRESS THE MECHANICAL CAUSES OF TMJ SYNDROME.

TMJ syndrome including jaw joint pain, clicking and locking, is a complex disorder that responds to a multifaceted approach including Chiropractic and Cranial Therapy for mechanical and neurological causes.

Occasional clicking of the jaw joint and stiffness is common especially as we age, and no treatment is necessary. If there is jaw pain, locking of the jaw, difficulty chewing or other significant jaw joint symptoms, an evaluation for TMJ syndrome is indicated.

Dr. Strasser will begin your evaluation for TMJ syndrome with a comprehensive structural, neurological, and whole person examination. It is important that patients with jaw pain and TMJ symptoms are evaluated for neck (cervical) joint fixations, muscular tightness and imbalances in the neck and upper back, and cranial indicators such as excessive tightness at the temporal muscles of the skull. Jaw conditions including TMJ locking, popping and pain, can be the OUTCOME of a wide range of mechanical and neurological problems as well as chronic stress. Disturbances in the teeth can contribute to TMJ disorders.

Cranial Therapy techniques are utilized by Dr. Strasser in treating TMJ disorders. Dr. Strasser combines gentle Cranio-Sacral (Cranialsacral) techniques, Traditional Osteopathic Craniopathy, Chiropractic Craniopathy, and European techniques to directly impact the mechanics of the TMJ joint including the TMJ disc. This integrated Cranial Therapy addresses the relationship between the upper cervical spine and the dynamics of the cranial region including the jaw.

Dr. Strasser provides gentle Chiropractic non-force manipulation and manual techniques to treat the structural system as a whole and the neurological feedback mechanisms that can contribute to tightness and dysfunction in the TMJ.

It is of vital importance to treat the whole person in treating TMJ disorders. Many whole health factors can play a part in TMJ syndrome especially chronic stress and emotional factors. When indicated, Dr. Strasser works with psychologists to provide a comprehensive whole person approach to TMJ. Dr. Strasser works with dentists to compliment necessary dental work.

Dr. Strasser has over 20 years of experience helping patients with TMJ and jaw conditions. By evaluating each individual patient for joint imbalances, disc disturbances and related problems in the neck and stucture that might be causing TMJ abnormality, Dr. Strasser establishes an integrated approach to management.
