TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA, FACIAL AND JAW PAIN, HEADACHE: GENTLE CRANIAL THERAPY, CRANIOSACRAL, AND CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

DR. STRASSER PROVIDES CRANIAL THERAPY AND NON-FORCE CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUES TO PROVIDE CARE FOR TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA, FACIAL AND JAW PAIN WITH HEADACHE.

Facial pain can take many forms from severe episodes of excruciating pain that characterizes trigeminal neuralgia to episodes of mild burning sensation in the face, facial pain associated with headaches, facial pain arising from the jaw, and the constant burning and cramping pain of atypical facial pain. Dr. Strasser has over 20 years of experience helping patients manage Facial Pain. Specialized chiropractic care and cranial therapy, and other drugless strategies including stress management, are among the treatment approaches Dr. Strasser offers patients with facial pain.

Careful diagnosis is the crucial first step in treating facial pain. Many patients who seek Dr. Strassr's care for facial pain have already had medical testing and dental examination. For patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) patients should have a brain MRI scan and an examination with a medical neurologist prior to seeing Dr. Strasser. For patients with other types of facial pain, organic and acute medical conditions must be ruled out prior to conservative care.

Dr. Strasser begins his evaluation of facial pain with a comprehensive chiropractic and cranial examination in a whole person context. After a careful history and a review of past treatments, he evaluates postural balance, intersegmental spinal motion, trigger points, cranial and TMJ findings. The result is a picture of the biomechanical and neurological state ofthe body which is the foundation for Dr. Strasser's treatment plan.

Many patients who seek Dr. Strasser's care for facial pain have already been diagnosed and treated medically for their condition. They are seeking a complement to this care, or an alternative to the pain drugs they are taking. If your facial pain is the outcome of disturbances in the neck--the cervical spine--, jaw and TMJ, or which are secondary to headache syndromes, you are a good candidate for Dr. Strasser's gentle care for facial disorders. Patients who have persistent episodes of severe trigeminal neuralgia may benefit from chiropractic care and cranial therapy as a complement to medical management.

Dr. Strasser provides patients with a comprehensive evaluation and, when appropriate, offers a trial of conservative care based on his findings. The treatment program for facial pain includes cranial therapy, gentle chiropractic manipulation, manual therapies, nutrition and whole-person strategies.

What are considerations in the chiropractic treatment of facial pain? Here are some important ones to consider

  • TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA: Trigeminal Neuralgia is a complicated disorder which is still poorly understood. Symptoms may disappear for months or years at a time. Drugs are not curative for TN, but treat the pain symptoms. These drugs have other effects or "side-effects" besides managing pain, so patients must consider and discuss drug recommendations with their medical physician, neurologist and pharmacist. Surgery for TN can be successful, but can carry risks and post-surgically symptoms can return. Again patients need to carefully consider surgery despite it being "dramatic". Dr. Strasser's work is not intended to "cure" TN, but to effect non-organic neurological imbalances, neurological "stress" and biomechanical factors that may be contributing to TN.

  • NECK RELATED FACIAL PAIN: Sometimes joint restrictions and disturbances in the cervical spine, especially the upper cervical spine, can cause episodes of facial pain, not however TN. In some cases, spinal manipulation appears to help patients with TN, but there is no research yet to support its role in TN treatment.

  • TMJ RELATED FACIAL PAIN: TMJ and jaw conditions can cause symptoms of facial pain. Dr. Strasser utilizes specialized cranial and manual techniques in treating TMJ and jaw pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Strasser has over 20 years of experience helping patients manage Facial Pain. For patients who are seeking chiropractic and cranial evaluation, and gentle, drugless care for facial pain, Dr. Strasser provides an integrated approach to management.
